Education

PGY-1 and PGY-2: Pediatrics rotations, including electives and outpatient work.

PGY-3: We follow ACGME guidelines for the twelve clinical months of adult neurology. Our residents currently have the following distribution:

  • Night float: 2 weeks
  • Inpatient at UNM: 4 months
  • Inpatient at VA: 2 months
  • Elective at UNM: 2 months
  • Elective at VA: 2 months
  • EMG at VA: 1 month
  • Subspecialty clinics: 2 weeks

PGY-4 and PGY-5 years:

  • 12 months of clinical child neurology
  • Approximately 4 months of inpatient consults (including seeing patients in the inpatient floor, NICU, PICU, and ER) and 2 months of outpatient clinics per year
  • 12 months of electives and selectives per year
  • 1 month of child psychiatry as required by ACGME

Starting in the PGY-3 year, our child neurology residents have one half day per week of child neurology continuity clinic (no adult continuity clinic) where they are excused from their other clinical duties. Starting in the PGY-4 year, they participate in a “senior child neurology resident clinic” one or two afternoons per month.
