Education

PGY-1 and PGY-2: Pediatrics rotations, including electives and outpatient work.

PGY-3 through PGY-5: Neurology rotations, including electives and outpatient work. We have changed to a schedule consisting of 13 four week blocks starting in July 2017.

PGY-3: Our residents currently have the following distribution: [note to web editor: ok to make the following a bulleted list]

  • Child neurology inpatient/consults, July 2017
  • Cerebrovascular (adult), 2 blocks
  • Inpatient adult neurology, 2 blocks
  • Epilepsy monitoring unit (adult), 2 blocks
  • EMG (adult), VA, 1 block
  • VA outpatient clinics (adult), 1 block
  • Night float (adult), 1 block (split into two separate 2 week sections)
  • UNM adult neurology electives, 2 blocks
  • VA adult neurology elective, 1 block

*PGY-3 child neurology residents attend child neurology continuity clinic every Thursday afternoon throughout the year (when not sick or on vacation!)

PGY-4 and PGY-5 years:

  • Inpatient child neurology consults (including patients in the inpatient floor, NICU, PICU, ER, and urgent care), 13 blocks
  • Child psychiatry, inpatient consults, 1 block (ACGME requirement)
  • Electives, 12 blocks
  • Outpatient: a longitudinal experience Monday and Wednesday afternoons (11 of 13 blocks) mostly seeing new patients in addition to continuity clinic every Thursday afternoon

  • Neuromuscular/EMG (adult)

  • Outpatient clinics (adult, child, both, including different subspecialties)
