Hospital Information

Your first two years are spent at the UNM Children’s Pavilion. Built in 2007, it is the state of New Mexico's primary pediatric specialty facility, housing 54 ward beds, 15 long-term rehabilitation beds, 52 NICU beds, 20 PICU beds, an urgent care, a 24-hour dedicated pediatric emergency department, and six dedicated pediatric operating rooms. You will be exposed to a comprehensive variety of patients, serving more than 40,000 children per year. One strength of the program is the absence of fellows outside the NICU, allowing for direct interaction with all pediatric specialists thereby developing your clinical skills and approach from the day you begin training.

Your PGY-3 year is focused on adult neurology training at the Veterans Affairs and UNM Hospitals. UNM houses a 25-bed neurology ward and a four bed state of the art epilepsy monitoring unit. It is the only stroke center and comprehensive epilepsy center in the state. Your adult training will focus on developing your fundamentals in neurology including the diagnostic approaches, clinical exam, the appropriate use of diagnostic tools, and general management of neurologic disease.
