Local Lifestyle

New Mexico has its own unique culture and has been a blast for our residents and faculty who have moved from throughout the United States. Albuquerque is over 300 years old and has a unique feel. Artists can be found throughout the city and state.

The cost of living in Albuquerque is quite favorable compared to other large cities (see http://www.abq.org/Cost_Of_Living.aspx). Residents and faculty enjoy the following activities in/around Albuquerque:

  • Hiking in the Sandia mountain range.
  • Camping/Hiking in one of the many national parks around New Mexico.
  • Skiing in Albuquerque, Santa Fe, Taos, or the many places in Colorado, just a few hours away!
  • We even have kayaking/canoeing in a few lakes: Cochiti, Abiquiu, and Heron Lakes.
  • International Balloon Fiesta (a yearly celebration of hot air balloons).
  • Local theater productions.
  • Santa Fe Opera.
  • Numerous Festivals: Summer Fest, Chile Festival, Greek Festival, and others!

The relatively mild climate in Albuquerque allows outdoor activity nearly year round.

For more information about the city, please feel free to visit the Albuquerque Economic Development website at www.abq.org.
