Introduction from Division Chief:

Thank you for your interest in the Child Neurology Residency Training Program at the University of New Mexico! We accept one resident per year in our five-year training program, and we are able to offer a high degree of personalized attention, focusing resident education on specific interests of each of our residents. Our faculty has a broad and diverse background with expertise covering all aspects of child neurology and neurodevelopment, and it is dedicated to enriching the training experience of our residents.
Over the years, we’ve enjoyed meeting residents with a passion and commitment to the ever-changing study of child neurology. As you go through our website, I hope you get an idea of the outstanding training opportunities we offer, including a dedicated faculty, a diverse patient population, and a strong neuroscience community which provides research opportunities for those interested.
In addition, Albuquerque is a terrific place to live, which is an important factor as you make a decision about where to spend five years of your life. It has countless outdoor activities available and true wilderness literally at your doorstep. Indeed, there are not many university cities of this size where I can be cross country skiing on a mountain top as the sun comes up and still get back in time for my morning clinic. So check us out, let us know if you have questions, and welcome to a terrific profession!

Introduction from Program Director:

Hello! Welcome to the website for the child neurology residency at the University of New Mexico. We offer a combined, ACGME-accredited, five-year Pediatrics-Child Neurology residency with one resident per year. Our mission is to prepare residents to practice independently as board-certified child neurologists who provide appropriate care for neurologic diseases while continuing the path of lifelong learning to sustain these skills. Our residents finish the program prepared to begin fellowship or practice either in academics or in a community-based setting.

We strive for our program to be learner-focused while balancing the needs of patients. Child neurology residents are treated as fellows during their PGY-4 and PGY-5 years, helping educate pediatrics residents and adult neurology residents. Our clinic has a multidisciplinary team with wonderful nurses. Residents are strongly involved in setting the topics for conferences and curriculum changes.

Please feel free to read through our FAQ and the rest of our website and let us know if we can be of any further assistance! Choosing a residency can be both exciting and potentially overwhelming. We’re happy to help you see if UNM could be a good fit for you!
